On the way in to work this morning, there was an ad trying to convince mothers to breast feed their babies. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Women’s Health sponsored the ads. The one I heard was in the style of a Barry White seduction song, and mentioned some things like improved immune response in the baby, reduced risk of breast cancer and heart disease in the mother, though it was hard to hear what they were saying because the voice was so deep and blended with the music. You can listen to them yourself; javascript players are in the right sidebar.

Andrea and I never even questioned whether she would breast feed Elizabeth, so I admit I’m totally baffled that breast-fed babies are in the extreme minority. Besides the health benefits to Mom, formula ain’t cheap!

Okay, here we go!

Looks like Blogger will work out for now. It doesn’t have categories so if I actually post here often I’m sure I’ll end up switching, but I’m sure if it comes to that, the transition won’t be bad. Let’s see if I actually get anywhere with this first, huh?

My wife, Andrea, has got a head start on me at frickchen.blogspot.com. She started it when she was a couple months pregnant with our first child, Elizabeth, and it’s a really funny read, even when I have already lived through or at least heard most of the stories! Elizabeth is just four months old this past week, which means when I have nothing else to write about, I’ll torment you with cute baby pictures. I don’t want to scare you off or anything, but I have already taken well over 500 pictures of her. That averages out to 4.16 pictures per day! I’m pretty picky about the ones I post, so if you look at her gallery, you’ll find only 5% of them make it in to the gallery. Only her grandparents, aunts and uncles are subjected to the full archive.

Which Blog?

This morning I received an email from my domain hosting company saying I could set up WordPress on my domain with just about one click’s worth of effort. Most of the email I receive is either from mailing lists or is spam. On the account that was my primary account 10 years ago, I made the dubious decision to post a few things to Usenet. I STILL get spam on that account, despite not having sent an email from it in 10 years.

You wouldn’t think an automatic email regarding blog software relates to email, but it does. Back in the day, when we used to walk barefoot in the snow twenty miles to school uphill both ways, people used email to stay in touch, only back then it was called E-mail. Now that everyone uses SMS or instant pestering for short messages and just posts longer things to their blog, I figure I may as well give in to the realization that it is unlikely I will ever receive a personal email or letter again.

So, on to the blog. But which one to choose?
