I went to ACE Hardware again — I realized the old rotor was rusted to the hub so I wanted brake component grease and anti-sieze to put on the surfaces after cleaning to prevent this problem if there is a next time I have to work on the brakes, and I needed a c-clamp to compress the inboard caliper back far enough to get the new pads on.

ahhhhhh good memories. I’ve replaced the rotors and pads on 2 cars with the help of friends who also happened to be “shade tree mechanics”. Once on my Civic with Teak, and once on Heidi’s ’97 Dodge Neon with a coworker. The jack stands are a safety must according to both of them. It was really a confidence booster to realize that I could something that cost so much for a proffesional to do. Granted, the pro is done in 30 minutes whereas it took us a couple of hours, but it was fun. The same when I remodeled my bathroom in the town house (http://cyclingpickle.blogspot.com/2006/02/bathroom-saga-part-i.html and forward). Everytime a friend comes over for the first time, I definitely say “hey, wanna see my bathroom?” “uhhhhhhhhhh” “I remodeled it myself.” “oh ok. sure”
